We all know that content marketing can be a powerful tool for small business owners and entrepreneurs looking to increase the reach and credibility of their brand. From informative blog articles to videos, webinars, ebooks and podcasts, content can come in all shapes and sizes. If you’re just starting to branch out into content marketing, or you’ve been doing it for a while and simply need to upskill, here are seven ways to improve your content creation.

1 Become an expert

There’s no denying the popularity of content marketing, while this may prove it’s validity, it also means it’s becoming an increasingly crowded space. In order to make your content stand out from the crowd, you need to showcase your expertise every chance you can. If you don’t have the time or capacity to become an expert, reach out to industry leaders in your field.

2 Invest in an SEO strategy

Content for content’s sake is not the best use of your time. Create an integrated content and SEO strategy so you can get as many eyeballs on your content as possible. Make use of Google keywords and similar tools to find out what people are searching for and be the answer.

3  Find your voice

Unless you’re a blogger or influencer, you are most likely writing on behalf of your brand, not as yourself. This means you need to find the voice of your brand or business. Is your brand playful, fun and cheeky? Or more corporate and formal? The answer will influence the way you write.

4 Publish often

To enhance the results of your content, be sure to create quality content regularly. While quantity should never be a priority over quality, it can pay off to have a regular posting schedule. After all, your social media channels will be constantly hungry for new, engaging content.

5 Give away your content for free

If your budget allows, give your best content away for free. Reward your existing followers, email subscribers and customers by giving them something that provides value, without always asking for a sale in return.
